The Lab Verdict

Executive Summary

79

/100

The Verdict:

The BendPak HD-9XL is the extended-length HD-9: its runways run about two feet longer than the standard HD-9, for a total length of 224.5 inches. That’s the model for long-bed trucks, extended vans, or dually frames that hang off a standard four-post. Capacity stays at 9,000 lb with the same drive-on convenience; you’re adding platform length, not lift height. Need overhead room instead of length? The extra-tall HD-9XW is the sibling to compare.

  • Who Should Buy It:
  • Homeowners wanting to double their garage parking capacity
  • Car collectors who need to stack vehicles for storage
  • DIY enthusiasts who perform oil changes and basic maintenance
  • Anyone who wants the safest, easiest-to-use lift type
  • Owners of full-size trucks and SUVs
  • Who Should Skip It:
  • Users who need to do wheel-off suspension work (unless you buy bridge jacks)
  • Anyone without at least 4″ of cured concrete
  • ⚠️ Lab Note:
This unit requires a 220V/230V connection. Most homes do not have this outlet in the garage. You may need an electrician to install a dedicated circuit.

Engineering Analysis

The “Deep Dive”

Hydraulics & Rise Time

Two 220V-driven runways — extended about two feet beyond the standard HD-9 — rise together on equalized cables. The extra length is all in the platforms, not the lift speed.

Safety Lock System

The longer runways carry the same multi-position mechanical locks, holding long-wheelbase vehicles securely on steel stops at height.

Structural Integrity

Extended-length four-post: runways roughly two feet longer than the standard model (224.5 inches overall) for long trucks, vans and dually beds, at 9,000 lb and a 75-inch lifting height. CE-certified, 5-2-1 warranty.

The "Squeeze" Factor

This is the most critical section for the HD-9XL.

DRIVE-THROUGH WIDTH 100.25"
CLEARANCE HEIGHT 65"

Let's do the math on a real-world scenario: 2023 Chevrolet Corvette.

Corvette Width (Mirrors Out): ~84"
Clearance: 8.1" per side
The Result:

It fits comfortably with plenty of clearance on each side.

Ceiling Math

To stack two cars, you need:

Car A Height + Car B Height + 10" (Runway + Clearance)

Example: 2020 Mustang (55") + 1969 Camaro (51") + 10" = 116 inches (9.6 feet)

If your ceiling is 9 feet (108"), you CANNOT stack these two cars with this lift. You would need a "Low Profile" modification or shorter cars.

Fit & setup

Freestanding on flat concrete — just confirm the 224.5-inch length fits your bay front-to-back. Browse the range in our best 4-post lifts guide or all 4-post lifts.

The Lab Take:

If this is for a commercial shop where liability is key, or if you are parking a $100k car underneath, buy the BendPak. The build quality and brand reputation justify the premium.

If you are storing a daily driver and budget is tight, the AMGO will get the job done, but expect some compromises on fit and finish.

Year 1 Maintenance Schedule

Owning a lift is like owning a car. You can’t just install it and ignore it.

Weekly

Wipe down the inside of the columns. Dust mixed with grease turns into a grinding paste that wears out your slider blocks. Check for debris around the runways and base plates.

Monthly

Check Cable Tension. You will hear the locks “clicking” as the lift goes up. If one corner clicks later than the others, that cable is loose. Tighten the nut on top of that specific column to level it out. Inspect the safety locks for proper engagement.

Yearly

Inspect the hydraulic hoses for dry rot or cracks. Grease the pulleys (sheaves) if they do not have sealed bearings. Check all bolts and fasteners for tightness. Verify hydraulic fluid levels and condition.
