The Lab Verdict

Executive Summary

78

/100

The Verdict:

The Halo HL9K-ST is the standard 9,000-lb four-post — and it’s a strong value because the extras are included: steel approach ramps, a caster kit to roll it, and drip trays all come in the box. It runs on a standard 110V outlet (no special wiring), lifts to 70 inches, and at 175 inches long fits most cars and light trucks. Need more runway length? The HL9K-XL. Want the heavier PRO build and a 10-year warranty? The HL9K-PRO.

  • Who Should Buy It:
  • Homeowners wanting to double their garage parking capacity
  • Car collectors who need to stack vehicles for storage
  • DIY enthusiasts who perform oil changes and basic maintenance
  • Anyone who wants the safest, easiest-to-use lift type
  • Owners of full-size trucks and SUVs
  • Who Should Skip It:
  • Users who need to do wheel-off suspension work (unless you buy bridge jacks)
  • Anyone without at least 4″ of cured concrete
  • Owners of extra-wide vehicles like Ford Raptors or duallys
  • ⚠️ Lab Note:
While 4-post lifts are free-standing, we recommend anchoring to the floor for maximum stability, especially in seismic zones.

Engineering Analysis

The “Deep Dive”

Hydraulics & Rise Time

A 110V power unit (2 HP, 20-amp) raises both runways together — no 220V wiring needed — with equalized cables keeping the four corners level.

Safety Lock System

Multiple mechanical lock positions hold the runways on steel stops at height for secure long-term storage.

Structural Integrity

Standard four-post at 9,000 lb: 70-inch lifting height, 85.6-inch overall height, 106.7 inches wide, 175.2 inches long, 18.9-inch runways. Includes ramps, casters and drip trays.

The "Squeeze" Factor

This is the most critical section for the HL9K-ST.

DRIVE-THROUGH WIDTH 93.00"

Let's do the math on a real-world scenario: 2023 Chevrolet Corvette.

Corvette Width (Mirrors Out): ~84"
Clearance: 4.5" per side
The Result:

It fits comfortably with plenty of clearance on each side.

Fit & setup

Freestanding on flat concrete; the caster kit lets you roll it. For storage, confirm ceiling height. Compare in our best 4-post lifts guide.

The Lab Take:

Both lifts are in a similar category. Your decision should come down to specific features that matter most for your use case.

Year 1 Maintenance Schedule

Owning a lift is like owning a car. You can’t just install it and ignore it.

Weekly

Wipe down the inside of the columns. Dust mixed with grease turns into a grinding paste that wears out your slider blocks. Check for debris around the runways and base plates.

Monthly

Check Cable Tension. You will hear the locks “clicking” as the lift goes up. If one corner clicks later than the others, that cable is loose. Tighten the nut on top of that specific column to level it out. Inspect the safety locks for proper engagement.

Yearly

Inspect the hydraulic hoses for dry rot or cracks. Grease the pulleys (sheaves) if they do not have sealed bearings. Check all bolts and fasteners for tightness. Verify hydraulic fluid levels and condition.
