The Lab Verdict

Executive Summary

79

/100

The Verdict:

The Tuxedo FP9K-DX-XLT is a 9,000-lb extended-and-tall (XLT) four-post storage-and-service lift — and it runs on a standard 115V outlet, so no special wiring. It lifts to 85 inches for a full second parking space underneath, and at 239 inches long (with ramp) it handles longer vehicles. Drive-on runways mean no arms to set, and it’s stable enough to store a car for months. The value-line Valor VP9K-DX-XLT covers the same job for less.

  • Who Should Buy It:
  • Home garages that want to double their parking
  • Long-term vehicle storage
  • Anyone who only has a standard outlet nearby
  • Who Should Skip It:
  • Buyers who need full stand-up service access (a two-post suits that)
  • Vehicles near or over the rated capacity
  • ⚠️ Lab Note:
Confirm the runway length fits your bay front-to-back, and the ceiling height for a vehicle stored up top.

Engineering Analysis

The “Deep Dive”

Hydraulics & Rise Time

A 115V single-phase power unit raises both runways together to 85 inches; equalized cables keep the four corners level, and the deluxe package adds a rolling jack tray and casters.

Safety Lock System

Multiple mechanical lock positions hold the runways on steel stops at height for secure long-term storage.

Structural Integrity

Extended (XLT) four-post storage lift: 9,000 lb, 85-inch lifting height, 97 inches overall height, 123 inches wide, 239 inches long with ramp, 20-inch runways. Runs on 115V.

The "Squeeze" Factor

This is the most critical section for the FP9K-DX-XLT.

DRIVE-THROUGH WIDTH Check with manufacturer

Drive-through width data is not available for this lift. Please verify fitment specifications with the manufacturer before purchasing.

Fit & setup

Freestanding on flat concrete — just confirm the 239-inch length and, for storage overhead, your ceiling height. Compare storage lifts in our best 4-post lifts guide.

The Tuxedo offers solid value and will handle most home garage needs. You will save $16,645.00 compared to the premium option.

If you want the peace of mind that comes with a name brand, better warranty support, and higher resale value, consider upgrading to the BendPak.

Year 1 Maintenance Schedule

Owning a lift is like owning a car. You can’t just install it and ignore it.

Weekly

Wipe down the inside of the columns. Dust mixed with grease turns into a grinding paste that wears out your slider blocks. Check for debris around the runways and base plates.

Monthly

Check Cable Tension. You will hear the locks “clicking” as the lift goes up. If one corner clicks later than the others, that cable is loose. Tighten the nut on top of that specific column to level it out. Inspect the safety locks for proper engagement.

Yearly

Inspect the hydraulic hoses for dry rot or cracks. Grease the pulleys (sheaves) if they do not have sealed bearings. Check all bolts and fasteners for tightness. Verify hydraulic fluid levels and condition.
