The Lab Verdict

Executive Summary

The Verdict:

The BendPak HD-9SWX is the extended version of the super-wide dual platform — the same side-by-side, park-four concept as the HD-9SW with added runway length for longer vehicles. Choose it over the standard SW when the cars you’re storing are longer than a typical sedan. It keeps the 9,000 lb rating and 220V drive-on operation of the family. For a single wide bay rather than two side by side, the HD-9EWT is the one to compare.

  • Who Should Buy It:
  • Homeowners wanting to double their garage parking capacity
  • Car collectors who need to stack vehicles for storage
  • DIY enthusiasts who perform oil changes and basic maintenance
  • Anyone who wants the safest, easiest-to-use lift type
  • Owners of full-size trucks and SUVs
  • Who Should Skip It:
  • Users who need to do wheel-off suspension work (unless you buy bridge jacks)
  • Anyone without at least 4″ of cured concrete
  • ⚠️ Lab Note:
This unit requires a 220V/230V connection. Most homes do not have this outlet in the garage. You may need an electrician to install a dedicated circuit.

Engineering Analysis

The “Deep Dive”

Hydraulics & Rise Time

The extended dual platform rises as one on a 220V single-phase unit, adding length to the super-wide layout for longer vehicles parked side by side.

Safety Lock System

Full-width mechanical locks hold the extended platform at height on steel stops.

Structural Integrity

An extended take on the super-wide dual-platform HD-9 — the same side-by-side, park-four concept with added runway length for longer vehicles, rated 9,000 lb and backed by the 5-2-1 warranty.

The "Squeeze" Factor

This is the most critical section for the HD-9SWX.

DRIVE-THROUGH WIDTH 192.00"
CLEARANCE HEIGHT 65"

Let's do the math on a real-world scenario: 2023 Chevrolet Corvette.

Corvette Width (Mirrors Out): ~84"
Clearance: 54.0" per side
The Result:

It fits comfortably with plenty of clearance on each side.

Ceiling Math

To stack two cars, you need:

Car A Height + Car B Height + 10" (Runway + Clearance)

Example: 2020 Mustang (55") + 1969 Camaro (51") + 10" = 116 inches (9.6 feet)

If your ceiling is 9 feet (108"), you CANNOT stack these two cars with this lift. You would need a "Low Profile" modification or shorter cars.

Fit & setup

Confirm both width and length for your bay; freestanding on flat concrete. See the range in our best 4-post lifts guide.

The Lab Take:

If this is for a commercial shop where liability is key, or if you are parking a $100k car underneath, buy the BendPak. The build quality and brand reputation justify the premium.

If you are storing a daily driver and budget is tight, the Atlas will get the job done, but expect some compromises on fit and finish.

Year 1 Maintenance Schedule

Owning a lift is like owning a car. You can’t just install it and ignore it.

Weekly

Wipe down the inside of the columns. Dust mixed with grease turns into a grinding paste that wears out your slider blocks. Check for debris around the runways and base plates.

Monthly

Check Cable Tension. You will hear the locks “clicking” as the lift goes up. If one corner clicks later than the others, that cable is loose. Tighten the nut on top of that specific column to level it out. Inspect the safety locks for proper engagement.

Yearly

Inspect the hydraulic hoses for dry rot or cracks. Grease the pulleys (sheaves) if they do not have sealed bearings. Check all bolts and fasteners for tightness. Verify hydraulic fluid levels and condition.
